Match Preview: Ironworkers Take on the Gold in NOLA

The Rugby New York Ironworkers (2-1) head to The Gold Mine to face the NOLA Gold (0-3) this Sunday at 3 pm.

NEW YORK's START TO THE SEASON:

The Ironworkers started the season with a 25-11 loss against the Seattle Seawolves. Since then, New York has allowed a combined 11 points while scoring 73. Their 84 total points scored on the season lead the Eastern Conference, and their 36 total points allowed leads the league. New York enters the match first in the Eastern Conference with 10 points.

INSIDE THE MATCH UP:

Since the 2019 season, the two teams have faced each other six times, with the Ironworkers having a 4-2 advantage. It’s been a back-and-forth battle every year. New York defeated NOLA twice in the 2019 season but lost both matches against them in the 2021 season. Last season, New York swept NOLA to give them the 4-2 record. The teams have never split a season series. Whichever team has won the first game in the set has always won the second.

PLAYER TO WATCH:

Pago Haini returns for his second match off the bench after being our last season with injury. We can't wait to see more of his barnstorming runs and brutal defence - making an instant impact last weekend against DC, much to the delight of the New York Rugby Women's Team who were in the stands to support one of their coaches! (Pago coaches NYRC Women in the off-season)
